HAZWOPER Trainings are not ONLY about Video's

HAZWOPER Trainings are not ONLY about Video's
With the BP Oil spill catastrophe creating a demand for more clean up workers, companies across the nation have sprung up like never before. These companies provide HAZWOPER safety trainings for workers and volunteers who wish to join in the clean up operations. However, many of these companies, in the bid to attract more attention and have more people sign up with them, have begun to misinform their users about their trainings.

OSHA has observed that off late there are many companies that provide HAZWOPER safety trainings online, but provide inaccurate and misleading information on their websites. Recently a company was found to have provided faulty information with regards to its online, interactive 40 Hour HAZWOPER training program. The company was found to have been providing courses that were not in compliance with OSHA's 20 CFR 1910.120 standard.

Likewise, many companies providing safety training course were found to provide trainings that are no longer a part of OSHA's policy. OSHA wishes to emphasize on the fact that many companies are interpreting that their training programs are completely interactive and video-based, which is not entirely true, as this is just a part of the program. OSHA stresses on the fact that employers and employees should not sign up with these courses because they are under the impression that the courses are asy and video-based only. Yes, video's are a part of the course structure. But cannot be used for the overall program. Physical manipulation of actual components like Personal Protective Equipment are equally, or more important, than the virtual components.

OSHA states that an employer must not only use interactive or video based training programs, as this is not in compliance with the 24 Hour or 40 Hour HAZWOPER training requirements. As a part of the 24 Hour and 40 Hour training requirements, an employee is expected to touch, feel, don or otherwise manipulate a piece of PPE. This is the only way to train an employee in the use of PPE. This is also the only way to prevent injuries or illnesses at the workplace.

Therefore, it is important to use video based trainings as a part of the program in addition to ensuring that your employees are physically trained into understanding the uses of PPE.
